How to Install Lineage OS 15.1 for Samsung Galaxy S4 Active (Android 8.1 Oreo)

If you're still running the stock Android 5.0 Lolipop Firmware on your Samsung Galaxy S4 Active, you might have experienced high CPU usage, stutters after a while of operation, and possibly faster drainage of the battery. If you are one of those unfortunate users, then don't worry, we got you covered. Introducing the Lineage OS 15.1 for the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active. It's a custom alternative version of Android 8.1 Oreo.

What is Lineage OS?

LineageOS is based on the Android Open Source Project with additional contributions from many people in the Android community. One of the best things about LineageOS is that it lets you update your device to the latest version of Android — even if the stock updates for the device became unsupported a long time ago. This brings a new life to many forgotten smartphones and tablets. Lineage OS still includes hardware-specific codes, which are also slowly unlocked anyway.

Complete credits to the developer and descendant of the Open Source Project. This ROM is still being built. If you find any bugs, then you can wait for the next update or you can go back to Stock ROM.

Make sure to follow these precautions before proceeding -

To install this ROM on your phone, you need TWRP recovery. This will work on Galaxy S4 Active only. (Do not try this on any other device):

  • Charge your phone up to 80% or 70%.

  • You will lose the original ROM if you have already installed it on your phone. So be sure to back up your phone using TWRP before performing this step using TWRP or another custom recovery.

  • You can back up all your apps using Titanium Backup or you can backup without root.

  • Download all of the Zip files below and put them in the phone's internal memory.

Steps to install Lineage OS 15.1 for Galaxy S4 Active (jactivelte):

  • First, install TWRP recovery on your phone. Click here for the full instruction.

  • Download the Lineage OS 15.1 ROM from the link.

  • Now boot into TWRP recovery.

  • In TWRP, go to the Wipe section. Then tap on Advanced Wipe and select Dalvik/ART Cache, System, and Data from the menu. Do not select Internal Storage.

  • Perform a right swipe to erase the selected partitions.

  • Then go back to the TWRP home screen, navigate to the downloaded custom ROM and perform a right swipe to flash it.

  • The process might take a minute or two. Once that is done, if you need to flash GApps, then head over to Install, select that GApps ZIP file and again perform a right swipe to flash it.

  • You can now reboot your device to the newly installed ROM. For that, head over to Reboot from TWRP and select System.

That's all! I hope you were able to install Lineage OS 15.1 for the Galaxy S4 Active. Leave a comment if you face any other issues. Thanks!
